Donald Trump and Elon Musk’s tight friendship has recently begun to burn up in flames, after Elon failed to deliver on his goals of cutting government spending and Trump began to impose unfavorable tax-cuts. The U.S. President has been reported to be, “not interested in talking with Elon Musk” which may “not resolve their feud over a sweeping tax-cut bill any time soon” (Reuters, CTV). These statements from the White House follow an open exchange when Trump, “suggested he would terminate government contracts with Musk’s businesses, which include rocket company SpaceX and its satellite unit Starlink” (Reuters, CTV), proving how he is not pleased anymore with the work Elon is providing for the government. Musk, the Tesla CEO, funded a majority of Trump’s campaign for presidency and was named head of the Department of Government Efficiency, which he abandoned about a week ago. With the U.S. facing “$36.2 trillion in debt” (Reuters, CTV), Elon believed this new bill recently passed by order of Trump to be devastating to the economy and a ‘ “disgusting abomination” ’ (Reuters, CTV), enraging the President, leaving him ‘ “very disappointed” ’ (Reuters, CTV) which provoked his attack on Musk online.

 

This surprising turn of events taking place in the United States is a very influential fall-out between two key figures in politics. I was astounded to learn that Elon held such a crucial role in the government, after being instated by Trump, and was scared to learn how much power he held in the White House. Musk’s resignation from this position proves how unstable and ununiform the American government is at the moment and shows the maturity level of those in power. The friendship between the two benefited Trump in his campaign financially and socially with Musk being a key figure in him getting elected as President. With Trump then instating the Tesla CEO as head of the Department of Government Efficiency seemed to be a way to pay him back for his services, but the fallout seemed inevitable to me. With two extremely strong characters, the tight friendship was never bound to last, so it was only a matter of time before a feud sent them spiraling, and of course knowing these two, it was an entertaining show that was public for all to witness.

Sitting on a Story Bench Assignment

  Sitting on a Story  1)      I have chosen a bench that is a short run from my house, it’s base encircled in concrete covered with moss and is at the foot of a new, under-construction elementary school. I used to come to this park when I was little, and play on the zipline and monkey bars, as this the old site of an abandoned primary school. In the winter I would sled down the steep hill near the back of the park, while in the summer I would play tennis and soccer on the fields. I even created a Geo-Cache once, that I hid in this park between two concrete blocks, during the era these outdoor scavenger hunts took North Vancouver by storm. Although the Cloverly elementary was closed and boarded long before I began going to the park, it stuck out on the property and gave off an eerie feeling of what once was, covered with graffiti and littered with weeds and mold.
